Mission:

The ministry for the mature adults at St. Andrew’s is dedicated to enhancing the lives and lifestyles for those members over 60 years of age. St. Andrew’s offers multiple events and activities for senior adults throughout the year. The Senior Ministry was organized to respond to the needs of the senior community

Goals:

Education (spiritual and secular) fellowship, relationships, culture, entertainment, travel, and to enhance the interaction between generations within the whole congregation.  Please check this site or the events of this web page often to make sure you do not miss a single opportunity! We are active no matter our category...No-Goes, Slow-Goes, and Go-Goes!

Programs:

A number of programs are offered throughout the year coordinated through various ministries in the church, including Women’s Bible Studies, the Rector’s Bible Study, and other programs aimed at education and cultural enhancement. Computer classes for all levels of competency are offered at a local community center and cover varied topics of interest to seniors.

Senior Brown Bag Lunch/Sharing Our Lives Together

Seniors bring a brown bag lunch and meet in Koslow Library once a month to hear presentations given by other Seniors. This is a wonderful time of fellowship.

Volunteer Opportunities

Individuals or groups can be involved in serving within the Body of Christ. Some examples of service within St. Andrew’s include maintaining the hearing aids for use in services, attending to small needs of the Clergy, and serving as Lay Eucharistic Ministers. The St. Andrew’s Memorial Fund Committee is comprised of seniors who oversee the distribution of gifts in memory and honor of loved ones.

Events

Seniors enjoy seasonal concerts from the Music Ministry as wonderful fellowship events. We coordinate group attendance at health seminars, museum exhibits and varied local events of cultural, historical and social interest to the senior community.

Trips

The Golden years are a wonderful time to travel and experience the Lord’s world with Church friends and family. We schedule several day trips as well as more extended trips to places near and far.

The Senior Ministry enhances and sustains the lives of senior members through service, education, recreation, fellowship and opportunities to worship in community with other seniors. We believe life as a senior is an abundant time to be alive: a time when we are able to give back from the gifts we have received, whether gifts of time, energy or resources, and a time to reap the benefits of living in community with other believers in Christ.

Sharing Our Lives Together

Thursday, February 16th | 12:00 PM | Koslow Library

Our speaker this month is Dick Moncrief. He will be sharing his insights and observations on various aspects of Russian culture based on his experience as an business owner and operator in Russia over fifteen years. Winston Churchill in a radio broadcast in 1939 described the country as “a riddle, wrapped in a mystery, inside an enigma,” meaning he found it very mysterious and hidden. That seems still to be true. Russia has the largest land area of any country in the world. It has borders with 14 different countries. It has the largest stockpile of nuclear weapons in the world and huge oil and gas reserves. Yet, it still finds it difficult to be a truly open society. Don’t miss out on some inside information on the country currently quite in vogue with the media.
